Eating Disorders and Cross Addiction | Safe Harbor Treatment Center for Women

Eating Disorders and Cross Addiction | Safe Harbor Treatment Center for Women Video Clips. Duration : 1.93 Mins.

www.SafeHarborHouse.com Safe Harbor Treatment Center for Women is nationally recognized as the premier Women's Drug and Alcohol Addiction Treatment Facility in Southern California. Women With Eating Disorders Eating disorders are a big health care problem in the United States. Becoming a woman is filled with many challenges, especially in this day and age. We are often faced juggling school, family, friends, work, financial challenges, and, to top it all off, our own personal struggles within. All of the daily stressors are compounded by internal feelings of inadequacy, control, self-esteem while the world seems to dictate to us how we should look, act and respond to stress. We live in a society (peers, school, religious group, work, doctors and the media) that tells the world that the ideal woman's body should be skinny, even though very few women fit this "representation". How can women escape these images and messages without having them shape our own perceptions of how we should look? The world seems to think that we can completely control our own body size and it is in our power to achieve this ideal body image. It is normal for some of us to have feelings of inadequacy and not feel completely confident with our bodies. To some, though, these thoughts can become invasive and obsessive leading to low self-esteem and eating disorders. Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa - Wellness Day Interview - Innovative Treatments in Addiction Recovery?

Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa - Wellness Day Interview - Innovative Treatments in Addiction Recovery? Video Clips. Duration : 2.35 Mins.

Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa is an internationally recognized expert on Kundalini Yoga and meditation. It was our honor to hear her speak on the topic of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation as they relate to Wellness in the Treatment of Addiction. ONE80CENTER: "What do you think are the of the more important innovations or new knowledge in the field of treatment?" "I think bringing yoga meditation and good food in. So much after an AA meeting everyone goes out and puffs away and eats donuts and drinks coffee. Now that's a first step. They are not using. They had to jump to something but coffee donuts and cigarettes isn't going to do it either. You can become diabetic. You have to go in steps. Some place like ONE80 gives them the grounds and the means to create a menu that's tasty and good and helps them to detox their body of the drugs so they don't even want it. We ran a rehab center back in the 70'ss. And it was an amazing center. I ended up in Tucson. And we used all the yogi technology. We used cold water and hydrotherapy, juices with herbs and lots of yoga and all kinds of things to take them though the withdrawal and then to replace that which brought them to that place. I think giving them good food that is probably one of the biggest new things and one80 does it. You can't just give them ham and ribs and think they are going to get well because it just poisons them. There are a lot of things that can keep a person not only off but also healthy and happy." Dr. Stephen Danisger, PsyD is the Executive Director and a Primary Therapist at ONE80CENTER. A 20-year veteran in the field of Addiction Treatment, Dr. Dansiger's mindfulness-based therapeutic tools helps ONE80CENTER clients bring wellness into their recovery. Helping to host this years event, it was a pleasure to hear Dr. Dansiger speak on a team-approach to incorporating wellness into the treatment of addiction. ONE80CENTER: "What do you think about the role of nutrition in early recovery?" "I think that it is utterly crucial and a couple of our speaker addressed it today. And I addressed it today wit an anecdote about a friend who remarked that if he were in a bad mood he would think he had to get a new therapist or a new AA group , or break up with his girlfriend or get new friends but what he really needed was a cheeseburger. People just getting hungry or people not eating right can sabotage anything and everything else they try. I have had eating issues around me in the past and I have seen many types of diets. I tried a vegan diet for a couple of years, vegetarian, and a pescatarian, I have gone all over the block and then there was a point where I was just chasing cattle down the street. So I have been through all these phases and I really have noticed the difference. Regardless of which of those diets I was on, there is a way of doing each one of those correctly. Then the other piece of it is nutrition. Like anything else there is a lot that we know that is ...

What is Love Addiction? | Safe Harbor Treatment Center for Women

What is Love Addiction? | Safe Harbor Treatment Center for Women Video Clips. Duration : 2.02 Mins.

www.SafeHarborHouse.com Safe Harbor Treatment Center for Women is nationally recognized as the premier Women's Drug and Alcohol Addiction Treatment Facility in Southern California. Sex and Love Addiction With Tiger Woods in the media spotlight, the debate has sprung up yet again. Is overindulgence in vices like sex, drugs and alcohol a symptom of an authentic illness, or is it just plain poor decision-making? When an individual has an addiction to something that doesn't sound like fun, for example self-mutilation or vomiting, people are less apt to argue about the addiction's validity as a disease. But when it comes to things that the average person enjoys doing and is capable of doing in moderation, like drinking or having sex, the public is much more likely to assume that all people have the same level of control that they possess when engaging in these activities. Labeling those whose lives are crumbling to pieces around them as the result of an addiction, like Tiger Woods, as 'sleazebags' or 'idiots' is unproductive. Infidelity and alcohol abuse are never good hobbies to take up, but there is much more at work than poor decision-making for those addicted to destructive behaviors. True addicts need treatment if they want to return to living normally. Without treatment, their addiction will continue to run (and ruin) their lives. Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa - Wellness Day Interview - Wellness Related Components for Addiction Treatment

Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa - Wellness Day Interview - Wellness Related Components for Addiction Treatment Video Clips. Duration : 1.85 Mins.

Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa is an internationally recognized expert on Kundalini Yoga and meditation. It was our honor to hear her speak on the topic of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation as they relate to Wellness in the Treatment of Addiction. ONE80CENTER: "What do you think are the more important wellness related components for a client's recovery and why?" "I think in an environment where people can love that person unconditionally. Where punishment is not part of it or guilt. I think being able to talk, read, learn to meditate, be given really good food and walking. I think learning to practice and praying, finding a bigger course than yourself. All that stuff is so important to become whole again And to know that for some people, they may go in and out for a bunch of times and it may not be until they are 50 years old, maybe 20 or maybe their first time they enter a rehab that it works. And for the people working in the rehab to be not attached to outcome. To know they are there to serve. And if a person leaves and goes back ,your arms are still open for them again. Because sometime, somewhere with prayers, before they take their last breath, and that separation, that gap between their mind and their soul will become one." Addiction Rehab Programs - Top 4 Methods of rehabilitation

Addiction Rehab Programs are different. Comparing 12 Step to non-12 Step rehab programs, you'll need to know what dissimilar types of rehab models there are and what you can look send to after you make a decision. I'll show you any core differences in the middle of 12 Step, medical, psychological and collective educational rehab programs and I'll make it quick and simple.

Rehab Doesn't wish Admitting You Are Powerless, An Addict With A Disease

Angeles Drug Los Rehab

This is only belief, the 12 Step / medical belief, of recovery.

12 Step addictions programs use fellowship meetings and applying the 12 Steps to one's life. The first any of these steps either turn habitancy toward or away from supplementary 12 Step meetings.

I will categorize each breakdown now:
Quick philosophy Participation and Personal Investment Investment: time and financial commitments Intensive In-patient agenda costs
12 Step
Admitting one is powerless over their addiction Accepting a self-given label as addicted or alcoholic Very flexible scheduling, reserve groups in most cities, no financial venture into recovery, except occasional coffee donation ½ Way Houses, Group Meetings To executive Class Time: 1 week to 90 days. Costs: for ½ way house 0 / week + mandatory group meetings. Mid Range In-patient ,000 / week, nice location fairly trustworthy / knowledgeable staff. executive Class ,000 to ,000 / week, great locations, specialist staff
Medical
Acceptance of disease trust causing addiction. The disease law has not been broadly validated or standard by addiction experts, so this remains a debatable point Managing the addiction is a life-long struggle and needs to be managed with counseling / medications. Relapses are expected Sometimes a brief or 30 day oppressive agenda plus on-going visits to doctors, medications for long-term periods if health persists. Costs for oppressive treatment, medical plans and / or pharmacy costs Time: 1 week to 90 days. Costs: ,000 to ,000 / week. Hospital or medical center environments, medical staff / nurses
Psychological
Re-evaluation of situations with counseling assistance, requires requisite evaluations and many dissimilar strategies Methods are as assorted as the whole of psychologists practicing in addictions Sometimes a brief or 30 day oppressive agenda plus regular therapy sessions, may wish concurrent medication as well. Costs of oppressive rehab agenda plus costs of visits and medications as required Time: 1 week to 90 days. Costs ,000 to ,000 / week. Residential / center settings. assorted levels of care providers / counselors
Social Educational
Addiction is caused by problems, often un-confronted, that the person has not yet solved Ending addiction is staggering through ones own efforts or participation in gaining greater skills / abilities Most programs are drug-free, no medications given Usually an preliminary oppressive period of study in or out-patient, often a period of detoxification, followed by ongoing application of life skills or requisite applications in life. Cost for oppressive rehab program, no ongoing costs Time 1 month to 4 months. Costs ,000 to ,000 / week. These programs normally go for months as one is acquiring new skills - students refer to these programs as colleges of life

Choosing in the middle of which recipe of recovery is most standard to address their abuse or addiction depends on personal goals for rehabilitation.

Once one has decided on the basic coming one wishes to take to gain recovery, some bigger decision need to be made. Does one need to break the cycle of drinking and drugging abruptly? Is the addiction or alcoholism caused sufficient pain or damage already?

Deciding to break a drug / alcohol abusive pattern is the first step to end addiction. The next step is the strategy to take to get there. I've laid out the basic structure and costs involved. The question is will you continue to pay the price of addiction or pay the price to recover?

Factors of Drug Addiction - transportation Breakdown

Looking into the circumstances which surround drug addiction it becomes easy to identify positive patterns. These patterns can then lead us to added our comprehension of what is happening to and with the addict. One of the most pronounced and first attributes we find in the drug addicted man is a break-down in their communication. They begin to ignore and avoid communication from various sources.

Mainly:

Angeles Drug Los Rehab

1. House and friends

2. Population in their environment

3. Themselves.

Let's take a look at these phenomena.

The first area in which communication breaks down is with House and friends. There are some major reasons for this. First and foremost, it is painful to keep disappointing the Population they love the most.

All the time they are growing up in the family, they talk of the time to come and how great it is going to be..."I am going to be a fireman when I am a man!" For girls it is not much different..."I will be a pilot", or, "When I am a grown-up I will buy you a great big house!"

Parents and friends might be the toughest Population in the world to disappoint. Gaining approval from them is one of the first goals a kid might have. 'Drug addict' was never on the list of things to be, and it is impossible to hide from the addict the pain the parents or friends feel at seeing what they have become. So the communication breaks down.

People in the environment are also cut off by the drug addict. The addict's actions are reprehensible and they know this either they admit it or not. So they become sullen and strangers are avoided as well as casual acquaintances. Because they are attempting to hide their activities, everyone becomes a potential threat. So they just stepping back into themselves.

In the end, they even cut off communication from themselves. Ever lie to yourself? They are also disappointing themselves, so there are excuses, reasons, excuses and justifications for failures and broken promises they made alone, just to themselves. Soon, the reasons are reinforced and they even start to believe it themselves. This is a painful situation. Just getting out of bed in the morning is tough because the lies start as soon as they look into the mirror.

Well, drugs can kill this pain. Before long, getting drunk or stoned earlier and earlier in the day becomes a necessity. This man is surrounding him or herself with either strangers or drugged-up friends who accept them thoroughly because they themselves are in the same situation.

A drug detox rehab schedule must address this issue of communication thoroughly if there is to be any real hope of recovery. Bringing the ex-addict back into touch with those around him or her must be part of any thriving drug addiction treatment facility.

Not every drug schedule deals with this communication factor and so a vital part of the addict's saving is never addressed.

To bring a man truly out of the hole of drug addiction, it is undoubtedly primary that they learn to reveal and live life in a way that does not want constant hiding and cover-ups.

Am I Addicted to Drugs? Here Are the Most Likely Signs of Addiction

If you are asking yourself this question, consider it a good sign. If you are addicted, it means you've come to the point of looking at your habits and behavior with a needful eye. Believe it or not, that is a big step and is the first requirement for salvage from addiction.

If you are not addicted, asking yourself this quiz, is also an prominent indication. It says that you are in danger; danger not only from the damages of drug use or abuse, but it says that you are approaching a needful point where your habits could take you down into a new realm in which you may not have the luxury of self-examination.

Angeles Drug Los Rehab

So what are the indications of addiction and do they exist in your life?

1. There is no quiz, about whether or not I'm going to use today.

If daily use for you is a given, this is a big indicator that addiction has already started. The whole and the compel of the substance used can vary in drug dependence, but repeated and frequent use is a constant.

2. I feel worried when I am running out of my drug/drink.

This is another strong sign that the importance of the substance is growing out of proportions. As time passes, if use doesn't stop, these worries will grow much stronger and other prominent items in life will take a back seat to the growing addiction.

3. I am using drugs or drinking when I'm alone.

This is a first-rate signal that the substance is filling a need you have. That would be a qoute or desire which is personal and perhaps private. Shyness, loneliness, feelings of shame or regret that you might not be fully aware of even having might are "medicated" on a daily basis. Unfortunately, such troubles are unmistakably worsened, not solved by drugs. The addiction is now feeding on itself and growing under its own power.

4. I find myself being secretive with regard to the drug and this is not my general way.

This is also part of addiction and will be gone when the qoute is handled but in the meantime adds to the shame and guilt of prolonged drug abuse.

These are all serious signs that there is an addiction problem. If you find yourself in one or more of the above points, addiction has started.

In the end, the most reliable sign of addiction is this: If you are using drugs and-or alcohol and are unable to stop, despite negative consequences, you have an addiction qoute and need to seek help.

The sooner you receive professional, drug-free addiction treatment, the good your chances of unblemished salvage and getting back to living your life.

Addiction, Triggers, Urges, and Cravings - How Using Mindfulness and Urge Surfing Can Help Now!

Whether our addictions have to do with alcohol, drugs, food, sex, gambling, emailing, or shopping, the addictive behavior is often preceded by some triggering event that sets off a flurry of uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, and sensations, prominent to cravings and urges to engage in the addictive behavior. An prominent part of salvage is being able to identify our triggers and how cravings and urges manifest in our bodies and minds. The convention of Mindfulness gives us a unique tool to slow time down and bring awareness to the thoughts, feelings, and sensations associated with the triggering event while it is occurring.

As soon as we bring awareness to the moment, we have stepped out of auto-pilot, giving the selection over our behavior back to us and in turn giving us the capability to gain back operate of our behaviors and our lives. Often, cravings and urges are our longing for things to be separate than the way they are in the moment. Dr. Alan Marlatt, the Director of the Addictive Behavior investigate center at the University of Washington, defines a craving as the desire to feel the effects of provocative in the addictive behavior, while an urge is a relatively sudden impulse to engage in an act such as drinking, shopping, or gambling - feeling the high.

Angeles Drug Los Rehab

Urges and cravings often feel like they attack without warning, but with a mindful lens, we can institute a sensitivity to the internal and external cues and an openness to the present-moment feel that counteracts our addictive behaviors. Dr. Marlatt proposes a few ways urges and cravings can be triggered. The first is straight through a lack of understanding into the body-feeling state such as sadness, anxiety, or guilt that manifest as bodily sensations in the body. The second is straight through defensive and distorted styles of thinking, such as denial, rumination, or catastrophizing. The third is straight through our automatic negative interpretations of events such as attributing a relapse to personal weakness. In practicing mindfulness, we are not trying to get rid of or avoid these difficult experiences, but instead instill an openness and curiosity about them, learning how to write back them and spin to them differently, breaking the cycle of relapse. Take a occasion right now to bring awareness to how your emotions, distorted idea styles, and automatic interpretations of events, can feed into cravings and urges.

In terms of emotions, a growing estimate of investigate is pointing to an unquestionable association in the middle of negative emotions and relapse. The internationally acclaimed Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh speaks to the point of being aware of our difficult emotions and even approaching them with compassion rather than suppressing them. It is the natural policy of emotions to come and go as it is for thoughts, bodily sensations, and just about all else. Think about if you have ever felt the emotion of sadness or joy. Did the feeling at last pass? However, with uncomfortable emotions we often try to ignore or avoid them. It is in this struggling and avoidance where we find our many suffering and in turn, our many triggers, cravings, and urges. Mindfulness gives us the capability to become aware of our emotions and as soon as this happens, we move from auto-pilot to the present-moment and procure the capability to be in control. As we do this, we growth our awareness of the impermanence of emotions, cut cravings and urges, and become less fearful and more safe bet that we can do it again the next time without resorting to addictive behavior. So what do we do, how can mindfulness help?

In concert with the underlying principle of impermanence found in mindfulness literature, Dr. Marlatt industrialized a technique called "urge surfing" which uses mindfulness and breath-focused meditation to help us ride out the urge. An urge to engage in an addictive behavior can be seen as an ocean wave in that it starts small, gets bigger, crests, and ultimately subsides. Urge surfing teaches us to use the focus of our breath as a "surfboard" for riding the wave of uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, and sensations rather than struggling or giving in to it. Although ideally it is best to be guided straight through this, here are a few steps you can try to get started: First do a brief convention where you sit, stand, or lie down and notice your breath coming in and out of your body. You can think of it as retention your breath company. This is good first convention so when an urge comes you'll be more likely to remember to do this. As you have the urge, you can bring awareness to the breath and let it surf the wave of the sensations associated with the urge. Noticing the bodily sensation of the impulse as it changes and intensifies in the body. You may notice sweating, salivating, tightening of the muscles, or constriction of the chest. Be aware of any thoughts that arise in the mind and also be aware how they come and go as well. Many habitancy can testify to the idea that an intense urge only lasts about 20-30 minutes, so notice the urge as it at last falls like a wave in the ocean. As I mentioned earlier, it helps to be guided by a live man or a Cd, but this is a good start.

May you be well, may you be at peace, may you be healthy, may you be free from suffering!

prescription Painkiller Abuse and Addiction

It is mentioned in songs, Tv shows, and movies. Celebrities use it, get addicted to it, and go to rehab to get off of it. Some 20 tons of it are reportedly produced each year. Hydrocodone is one of the most abused of all prescription drugs. In the 2006 Monitoring the future study from the University of Michigan, one brand of this single pain drug ranked second only to marijuana in the top five drugs used by 12th graders in the past year.

Hydrocodone is a narcotic-type painkiller generally prescribed for the short-term management of intense pain from injury or surgery. Hydrocodone is an opioid-meaning it acts on the body similar to the narcotic opium. It binds to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal chord, where it interrupts or alters the perception of pain.

Angeles Drug Los Rehab

Hydrocodone also increases the operation of the neurotransmitter, dopamine, producing a euphoria similar to that produced by other narcotics such as morphine or heroin. This is the customary speculate for the prevalence of abuse.

Dependency and Withdrawal

Prolonged use of opioids can succeed in a corporeal tolerance, meaning higher doses are required to achieve the same effects. It also leads to corporeal dependency, wherein the body adapts to the drug and relinquishment symptoms occur if it is stopped. Drug detox in a rehab center is the safest route down at that point.

The symptoms of opioid painkiller relinquishment may include restlessness, fever, sweating, chills, goose bumps, muscle and bone pain, insomnia, nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite, involuntary leg movements, sneezing, watery eyes, runny nose, irritability, panic, depression, persistent headache, and greatest sensitivity to light and sound.

Side Effects

Sometimes the opioid, hydrocodone is combined with an additional one drug, acetaminophen, which is the active ingredient in Tylenol. The expanding of acetaminophen acts to growth the analgesic effects and limit the intake of hydrocodone. At higher than prescribed doses, acetaminophen can cause unpleasant and often unsafe side effects together with damage to the liver.

Common side effects of hydrocodone include dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, vomiting, and constipation. Some less coarse side effects are allergic reaction, blood disorders, changes in mood, reasoning fogginess, anxiety, lethargy, strangeness urinating, spasm of the ureter, irregular or depressed respiration, and rash. Euphoria and drowsiness are the coarse side effects that have led to the medication's illicit use.

Overdose symptoms

Signs and Symptoms of Drug Abuse and Drug Addiction - Know Them

Drug abuse is nearly always carried on in secret. The abuser is trying to hide the drug use activities from parents, the spouse, the school or any authorities such as the police. Because of the legal and social consequences of drug abuse, it is often difficult to learn with certainty that the question exists, at least until the question is so large that it can no longer be hidden.

To settle if there is a drug problem, look for the symptoms and signs, both bodily signs and behavioral signs. Look straight through the following signs and symptoms and if you find several, the chances that there is an actual substance abuse question growth with every yes answer.

Behavioral signs and symptoms:

These will normally be the first alerts when drugs are present. It might take a long time for the bodily changes to manifest themselves, but changes in attitude and behavior can occur overnight.

Changes in sleep habits

This does not mean a small convert in sleeping hours, or falling asleep on the couch for a change. These changes can be severe. No sleep for a integrate of days, a former early riser sleeping till 3 Pm regularly, or man who was always a light sleeper now being nearly impossible to awaken.

Altered eating habits with resultant weight changes

Many drugs, when abused, sell out the user's appetite so fully that they will begin to waste away right before your eyes. The brain is getting a false signal, constantly saying, "You are full, stop eating!" This leads to many very unhealthy conditions which can continue to intensify the drug problems.

Other drugs, in some individuals, might cause over eating. This results in weight gain. There can also be alterations in metabolism because of drug use, which might cause changes in eating habits and weight in some users.

Mood swings

Drug abuse affects the emotional stability of the abuser and can have severe, even disastrous effects on the addict's feelings and sense of well-being. Too often, these mood changes are not attributed to the drug abuse, leading some users into a tail-spin of introversion and even depression.

Physical signs and symptoms:

Physical symptoms are reliable indicators of an ongoing drug problem. While not infallible, these are by all means; of course clues that something is wrong.

Redness in the eyes or nearby the nose

Redness or soreness in the nasal area is a tasteless sign of abuse of several drugs. Meth, cocaine and designate drugs are often "snorted" into the nose to be absorbed into the nasal and sinus tissues.

Needle marks

Marks like small sores on arms or other places where needles have punctured the skin, normally over veins are distinct flags of drug abuse. Because this is so positively spotted, addicts often find more obscure places on their bodies to shoot drugs into a vein, or they take to wearing long-sleeve shirts and long pants in all weather conditions in order to hide the evidence of their drug use.

Pupils dilated or constricted

This might seem harder to spot, but when the pupils are so wide that they nearly cover the whole eyeball, or when they are uncomplicated pin-points, it is very obvious.

There is a road out of this mess. With proper guidance, anything can work their way back to sobriety and reclaim their lives.

These are only some of the signs of drug abuse, but they are pretty reliable. And if two or more of these changes are present, the likelihood that you have a drug question on your hands increases. So being alert to the signs and symptoms of drug abuse and addiction could, actually, save a life by helping man find the needed treatment before it is too late.

This is why gender-specific treatment programs are indispensable in beating addiction. Women require specific forms and methods of treatment, owing to their unique emotional and psychological makeup. Harmony Place is dedicated to treating, assisting, and supporting women who are struggling with dangerous addictions and habits, and guiding them to complete recovery. Our philosophy helps our clients recognize and properly evaluate the impact of addiction and any co-occurring dual diagnoses. Directly treating co-occurring dual diagnoses is an integral part of our treatment programs. Through years of research, study, and experience, we have come to realize that women have very different reasons for their addiction than men. These reasons, which mainly involve emotional issues, often co-exist with such symptoms as depression, anxiety, and sleep and eating disorders. There are cases wherein drugs, alcohol, or other dangerous substances are used as self-medication for these symptoms. Our philosophy is to help women open up and recognize their addictions and symptoms (hence a dual diagnosis), and in so doing make both available for treatment.
